Saturday, June 13th, 2009

The twists, turns and tips you need for staying up-to-date by the water cooler.

Highlights of the Week

  • Google Wave: Taking the Enterprise from Microsoft? Two weeks ago, everybody was talking about it. It manhandled the blogosphere, was a trending topic on Twitter, and whispers of it could still be heard coming from the mouths of various Gilbane SF attendees last week.
  • Hippo Embraces Apache Jetspeed’s Revival. The open source ECM vendor Hippo, in an effort to develop a closer relationship with the Jetspeed community, has been busy contributing to this Apache project and even released its own product and support package

SeeWhy Ramps Up for Growth, Announces New CEO

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

seewhy_logo_09.jpgSeeWhy Inc (news, site), providers of an interesting little tracking/Web analytics tool that attempts to convert website abandoners, recently announced a new CEO. The newly appointed Scott G. Silk will be in charge of SeeWhy’s daily operations as well as shaping the overall vision and direction for the new team.

SeeWhy also reportedly plans to expand its focus beyond research and development by beefing up its sales and marketing sectors. Luckily, prior to SeeWhy, Silk was president and CEO of Action Engine Corp. where he established the company’s mobile application platform and oversaw their eventual sale to Mobui Corp. His expectations of his new job seem pretty positive as well:

“SeeWhy is in the right place at the right time with best-in-class technology,” he said. “In a down economy, everybody’s focused on cost-effective revenue generation. We deliver a compelling ROI in a SaaS delivery model. Considering that up to 70 percent of ecommerce customers abandon a session before they buy, our software can basically double a company’s online sales—without any capital expenditure. With more and more business being done over the web, my job is to exploit our unfair advantage in web conversion.”

With 20+ years of experience leading technology companies under Silk’s belt, it looks like SeeWhy is in good hands, but will

New Localization Features Improve Translation Management with Clay Tablet

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Clay Tablet_logo_2009.jpg In the competitive world of localization it’s not unusual for companies to make exaggerated claims about their products to get a little bit of attention. So in October 2007, when Clay Tablet (news, site) said v2.0 of its Translation Management system could integrate any content management system with any translation system, there may have been a few raised eyebrows.

However 18 months and no complaints later, Clay Tablet has unveiled v2.5 at the Localization World Conference in Berlin which continues until tomorrow. This version comes with two new features: InSync Master Asset Management (MAM), and MultiPoint Flexible Routing technology (MFR).

FatWire Named Leader in Web CMS for External Sites

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Fatwire A Leader in Forrester Wave for External WebsitesObviously if you make the list of any analyst report — at least in a good light — you want the world to know. For FatWire (news, site), that analyst report comes in the form of the Forrester Wave for Web Content Management For External Sites, Q2 2009.

One of three leaders among ten web content management systems listed, FatWire received recognition for “business-user-oriented tools that enable not only the management of content, but targeted delivery, analysis, and optimization of content consumption as well.”

We won’t go into the details of the report, we did that in our article SDL Tridion Named Leader in Web CMS for External Sites. Suffice it to say, this report is designed for enterprise level organizations who have money to spare (well, no one really has money to spare these days).

It’s worth noting that FatWire is the smallest vendor to make the Forrester Wave list. Does that make it any less good? We doubt it, but sometimes the smaller vendors can give better support.

Get your copy of the Forrester Wave and get more detail on FatWire and the other leaders.
